Fish Community Sampling
Fish community sampling is an important component of our work where development is proposed either in or adjacent to any water body. Fish sampling collects baseline data on the fish population on site. It involves a variety of capture methods including nets, minnow traps and electrofishing. After the fish species is identified and the fish is measured and weighed, it is released unharmed. These fish population assessments are completed by qualified staff under the Ministry of Natural Resources scientific collector permits.
All NEA Fisheries staff are Class 2 backpack electrofishing certified and experienced using a diversity of sampling equipment.
