Ecological Land Classification
NEA staff are certified to conduct Ecological Land Classification (ELC) surveys and are experienced in assessing a variety of natural environments. ELC surveys are used in Southern Ontario to identify vegetation boundaries on project sites. This tool identifies and and measures significant natural features such as wetlands and woodlands as well as significant wildlife habitat.
ELC coding is transferable to most conservation authority databases and is the industry standard. Forest Ecosystem classification systems are implemented for central, northeastern and northwestern Ontario.
