Benthos Collection and Analysis
NEA provides comprehensive macro-invertebrate (benthos) services as part of biological health water quality assessment for projects or individual sample assessment. With our in house laboratory, NEA offers timely sample processing, tailored to your study requirements.
We can complete all components of the Ontario Benthos Biomonitoring Network (OBBN) protocol including:
- study design;
- specimen collection in lake and river habitats;
- sample sorting and specimen identification to the taxonomic Order and Family level;
- standardized data input to the OBBN database; and
- statistical analysis (Hilsenhoff biotic index, BioMap and Simpsons Diversity Index).
NEA aquatic staff have been trained in the Ontario Benthic Biomonitoring Network and the Ontario Stream Assessment Protocol and have certification with the Ontario Benthos Biomonitoring Network (OBBN) and the Society of Freshwater Science Taxonomic Certification for North American Benthos Families.
